Texas state residents who are disabled can claim an exemption from motor vehicle sales tax on new and used vehicles when adaptive equipment is installed for use by a person with an orthopedic disability. For more information call the Comptroller of Public Accounts at 1-800-252-5555.

The Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services

The Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) is one of four new departments under the umbrella of the Health and Human Services Commission. The department was created by the 78th Legislature and comprises the programs and functions of the following legacy agencies:

Bexar County's Network of Care for Seniors & People with Disabilities, provided by the Alamo Service Connection. This comprehensive, Internet-based resource is for the elderly and people with disabilities, as well as their caregivers and service providers. The mission of the Alamo Service Connection is to provide easy, friendly, helpful access to services for older adults, people with disabilities and their families in Bexar County.
